You lose hours putting together the quote, sorting the inventory sheet or preparing the deck for the bank, and the AI you used was slow or gave you weak drafts. Sonnet 5.5 is Anthropic's model for well-scoped everyday work. According to its announcement, it is more than 30% faster than Sonnet 5 and beats it at creating documents, slides and spreadsheets.
Who this is NOT for
If what you need is a deep decision, like restructuring prices or evaluating a partner, this is not your model: Anthropic itself says Opus 5.5 remains clearly stronger at complex, open-ended work that calls for sustained judgment. If you will send thousands of automated messages and every cent counts, wait for Haiku 5.5, which the announcement says arrives in the coming weeks. And if your data cannot leave your office, the page does not say you can run it on your own machines: look at Ollama.
What strikes us most is that the maker itself tells you where it falls short: well-scoped tasks, yes; sustained judgment, better Opus 5.5. The typical mistake is using the most expensive model for everything, or the cheapest one for everything. Use Sonnet for what you can check at a glance and leave Opus the decisions you are afraid of getting wrong. Note: every number in the announcement is Anthropic testing its own model, and it launched on September 28, 2026, so there is no long track record yet. We could not verify its license.
Your first step
Open Claude from the "Try Claude" button on the announcement page, paste your price list exactly as you have it today and ask it to turn it into a spreadsheet sorted by category.
