Your Ops Without You Self-host

Get your business know-how out of your head

How to handle a supplier, what to say to a complaint, where the router password is: it all lives in your head or in lost chats, and every new hire asks you again. Obsidian is a note-taking app you install, where you keep that knowledge in a 'vault' and link notes to each other until you have your business manual.

Who this is NOT for

If you want a system that comes pre-built and you just fill it in, this is not it: its own help site pitches it as something you shape 'to fit your way of thinking' with thousands of plugins and themes, and that shaping is on you. And if you write nothing down anywhere today, no app will change that: start with a notebook or a shared doc and come back when you already have notes slipping away. This entry is based only on the help site, which does not state the license or whether the code is open source.

Curator's note · NeuralEdge

One telling detail: the help site you are reading says 'Powered by Obsidian Publish' at the bottom. The product's manual is built with the product itself, which is exactly what you want to build for your team. A mistake everyone makes: spending the first week trying themes and plugins instead of writing. Obsidian's value is in links between notes ('Link notes' is one of its first four steps), and that only shows up once you have twenty real notes. Plugins later.

Your first step

Go to help.obsidian.md and follow 'Download and install Obsidian' and 'Create a vault'. Then write your first note: the step-by-step for opening the business in the morning, exactly as you would explain it to a new hire.

The Obsidian implementation guide

The project belongs to help.obsidian.md and it is free: the link beside asks for nothing. The guide to set it up without getting lost is ours: step by step, common mistakes and a checklist. Leave your email and we will send it.
